DBT Skills Group for Teens and Parents in East Brunswick, NJ
At the Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy in East Brunswick, we know how challenging it can be for teens and families to manage overwhelming emotions, conflict, and stress. That’s why we offer a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group designed specifically for adolescents ages 13–17 and their parents or caregivers.
What Is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a research-backed approach that helps people learn practical tools to manage emotions, improve communication, and strengthen relationships. In this group, both teens and parents learn side by side, creating a shared language that fosters mutual understanding and lasting support at home
What Families Will Learn
Each week, participants gain hands-on strategies through activities, handouts, and exercises. Together, you’ll build skills across DBT’s five core modules:
- Mindfulness – staying present and aware
- Distress Tolerance – coping with stress in healthier ways
- Emotion Regulation – managing big feelings effectively
- Interpersonal Effectiveness – improving communication and relationships
- Walking the Middle Path – finding balance and compromise.
Why Multi-Family?
Parents and caregivers learn alongside their teens, giving families tools they can use immediately in everyday life. This collaborative setting helps to:
- Reduce conflict at home
- Improve family and peer relationships
- Build control over impulsive behaviors
- Cope more effectively with anxiety, depression, or low mood
- Increase connection and support between teens and parent.
